Her deep knowledge of the game and ability to develop athletes at all levels make her a highly sought-after coach. A former collegiate player, Haylie competed for four years at the University of West Alabama, where she also earned her Master’s degree in Exercise Science.

With 19 years of softball and baseball coaching experience, Coach Jim Best has become a respected leader in developing young athletes both on and off the field. He has coached at Madison-Ridgeland Academy (MRA) and Ridgeland High School, bringing a wealth of knowledge to every practice and game. Coach Best specializes in hitting, fielding, pitching, and catching instruction, and is known for his ability to connect with players of all skill levels. Driven by a deep passion for the game, he has dedicated 18 years of service to the MRYSC Softball Board, helping grow the sport in the community. Coach Best’s commitment to excellence, mentorship, and player development continues to make a lasting impact on the future of fastpitch softball.

Sydnee Best has been providing softball instruction at Best Athletics since 2022 and has quickly become one of the most sought-after instructors in the area. A former collegiate player at both the University of Montevallo and the University of West Alabama, Sydnee brings high-level playing experience and a strong understanding of the game to every session. She offers comprehensive instruction in all areas of softball—including pitching, hitting, catching, and fielding—and is known for her ability to connect with athletes and help them grow. Sydnee’s passion for the game and commitment to developing well-rounded players make her a key part of the Best Athletics team.

SOFTBALL COACH

Ella Tierce is a lifelong softball athlete and proud graduate of Madison Central High School, where she competed as a varsity starter from 8th–12th grade. A versatile player, Ella served as one of the team’s primary starting pitchers, while also contributing at second base, first base, and in the outfield. She competed on multiple high-level travel ball teams throughout her career, gaining extensive experience against top competition. After graduation, Ella transitioned fully into the coaching side of the game—a move fueled by her passion for developing young athletes. She is committed not only to teaching the technical skills of softball but also to building confidence, character, and a deeper love for the sport.

BASEBALL COACH

Hi, I’m Brooks Johnson. I have been playing baseball for the past 11 years and i am currently a player for the Germantown Mavericks. Through my experience, I’ve developed a strong understanding of the game and what it takes to improve.
I’m passionate about helping young players grow, not just in their skills, but also for the love of the game, confidence, and what it takes to be successful baseball players. I enjoy teaching the fundamental aspect of the game and creating a positive environment where players feel motivated to get better every day. My goal as a coach is to help each player reach their full potential while making the game rewarding and fun.

BASEBALL COACH

Former Ole Miss pitcher and Dandy Dozen honoree, Jacob Payne brings elite experience and a genuine love for the game to Best Athletics. After competing at the highest level in high school and at Ole Miss in college, he now pours his passion into developing young arms and building confident, disciplined athletes.

Grounded in faith and purpose, Jacob uses baseball to teach leadership, character, and life lessons that matter far beyond the mound. He is committed to helping players sharpen their mechanics, increase velocity, compete with poise, and grow into strong young men on and off the field.
